Analysis of music video

We set our music video to be aimed at an audience of youths aged from 15-25 as it is a pop music video. Meanwhile as michael Jackson is followed by much of the older generations as he peaked in the decades of 1980-1990 and 1990-2000, it is also aimed at the people who were around that time. Michael Jackson also never accepted his colour barriers and broke this reaching to an audience of black, white and asian and is a universal figure and icon, so the audience would be even bigger than this for our music video. The genre of the video is pop/R & B video as the composition of drums is very up beat and fast tempo, it is also a dancing song as there are a lot of fast second clips with a diversity of dance moves.

We use natural lighting in our music video apart from when we are in the dance studio, as at times we use the light in the studio. We use natural lighting because we are outside in the street, which adds to the connotations of the video being a street dance theme, with which the costume plays a part in.

The two female dancers of the video have a costume of urban clothes to show it is 'street', meanwhile their costume contrasts to what the main male dancer is wearing which is his shirt tucked into his pants, with gold accessories, which coveys the theme and style of 1950s to 1990s. The male dancer 'shuffles' which is a known dance move from the 1950s from James brown. The main dancer also has a white shirt with the logo of 'Olodum', which Michael Jackson actually wears in the 'They don't care about us' video, which Olodum are a brazilian drummer group who protest for black rights in Brazil, which link to our video of creating a Michael Jackson theme, and hold a form of african pride which all three dancers are apart of. Also the main dancers shiny shoes present the modern version of James Brown and the history of black musics leather black patents or loafers.

The background and surroundings are also of graffiti, typical urban inner-city locations to enhance the theme of 'street dance'. Key props such as busses, population traffic are used to show the city life. Skate ramps are used for the background and tunnels are also used to show the outdoor life of manchester. We also dance on the top of a car park with a good background of big buildings to also portray the city life.

The close-up panning shot of the three dancers at the beginning plays a part in the narrative as the serious faces give a clue that the video is going to be a dance off. Then the low angle shot of the male doing his first dance move shows what the music video will be about with the up-beat music. There is then the long shot of the busy population running around with increased motion, and gives a theme of happiness and joy with the man in the costume, and the quick long shot of people enjoying being infront of the camera. Alot of long-shots and cutaways are used throughout the video as there is three of us dancing. Throught the first verse a long shot is turned into an establishing shot to show the scene around which comes very effective and plays as an original idea. Finally there are extreme close ups of the graffiti near the opening of the video which present urban/skating city life.
